Recommended Image Dimensions

To ensure your images display sharply, load quickly, and fit well with the theme’s layout, please refer to the recommended image sizes and aspect ratios to use when uploading images to Shopify.

1. Shopify image optimization behavior

Shopify uses a global CDN and an automatic optimization system for all uploaded images. When you upload a high-resolution image, Shopify compresses and optimizes it, then serves the most appropriate version on the storefront.

You should use clear, high-resolution images as needed. Shopify will handle the optimization to ensure both fast loading performance and high-quality display.

2. Image sizes and ratios

Your website will always look better when using high-resolution images. On Retina, 4K, or larger displays, the demand for image quality is much higher; low-resolution images will easily appear blurry or degraded.

We recommend using JPG format for photography and images with complex colors or gradients, as JPG provides better visual quality for these types of images.

For graphics, icons, and logos, or when you need a transparent background, you should use PNG format to maintain sharpness.

Additionally, when you have the option to upload separate images for mobile devices, we always recommend using portrait-oriented images, as they are more suitable for mobile screen ratios.
